    WTF... (Does this face show this sentiment?) Did you know that here in Aotearoa New Zealand, the motherhood penalty can reduce a woman’s potential earnings by a staggering 12.5% over her career? The motherhood penalty sums up the disadvantages that working mums face in the workplace – like lower wages, fewer promotions, and less respect compared to others. It’s pernicious, and assumes that mums aren’t as committed or as competent as other workers. I call bullsh*t!That 12.5% isn’t just a statistic, either – it’s a reflection of how we punish working every day.That’s why the #WorkSchoolHours movement is so vital.     "Japan Set to Introduce Support for 'Young Carers' Through Legislation"The Japanese government is gearing up to introduce legislation aimed at supporting 'young carers'—individuals who devote considerable time to assisting family members with personal care or other needs. This legislative action is aimed at standardizing support for young carers nationwide. Following a series of reports by The Mainichi Shimbun in 2020 highlighting the plight of young carers, the government seemed to be spurred into action. By May 2021, a report outlining proposed assistance measures was finalized, paving the way for the new law. Previously, local authorities and organizations have been somewhat indifferent to the needs of young carers. The upcoming law is set to provide a legal framework to encourage and facilitate support from these entities. Acknowledging the profound effects caregiving can have on a young person's educational and career opportunities, the government plans to expand the eligibility for assistance. The new legislation will extend support beyond the age of eighteen, now including individuals up to their thirties.
