NAOMI MOONEY AYco*ck Mrs. Naomi Mooney Ayco*ck, 73, formerly of Durham, died Friday morning in Rockingham, where she made her home. Mrs. Ayco*ck was a native of Durham. She lived most of her life in Durham before moving to Rockingham in the early 1970s.

While in Durham, Mrs. Ayco*ck was employed with Honey's Restaurant. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Maplewood Cemetery, Annex Section 15, in Durham by the Rev. Dr.

Howard Silva. Mrs. Ayco*ck is survived by a son, George Ayco*ck of Columbia, Rn S.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Gwen A. Pitchford and Mrs.

Betty A. Smith, both of Rockingham; two brothers, Charlie Mooney of New Bern and Lester Mooney of Durham; a sister, Mrs. Nannie Hill of Durham; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Arrangements are by Marks Funeral Home in Rockingham. NORMAN JOSEPH 'JOE' GLENN Norman Joseph "Joe" Glenn, 70, of Rt.

3, Box 39, Clayton, in Troy Lee Mobile Acres, died Saturday morning in Rex Hospital, Raleigh, after a lengthy illness. Glenn was a native of Durham County and was a resident of the Oak Grove community for many years. He was employed in the carpentry department of Liggett Myers Tobacco Co. for 34 years before retiring. Glenn was a member of Fletcher's Chapel United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Hudson Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. E.L. Bradley. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucy Ann Wilson Glenn; three sons, Norman Clifton Glenn, Kenny J. Glenn and Rod A. Glenn, all of Durham; a daughter, Mrs. Donna Jo Moore of Durham; a stepdaughter, Mrs.

Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. Mrs. Smith was a native of Danville, Va. She attended Durham city schools and Deshazor's Beauty School, where she earned her cosmetology license. Mrs.

Smith formerly was employed by Reed's Beauty Shop, Triangle Nursing Home, American Tobacco General Telephone Co. and Servomation at Burroughs-Wellcome Co. She was a member Russell Memorial CME Church, where she served as a member of the missionary society, the stewardess board, the Adult Christian Council and the E.J. McCoy Sunday School Class. Murdock died Thursday. She was a native of Orange County. Mrs. Murdock was an employee of Liggett Myers Tobacco Co. for over 50 years before retiring in 1963.

She was a member of Mount Olive AME Zion Church for 60 years. She served the church as a member of the missionary board and stewardess board. Mrs. Murdock is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Williams and Mrs.

Lessie Ward, both of Durham; a son, Otto Allen "Skin" Pratt of Durham; two stepsisters, Mrs. Lizzie Martin and Mrs. Bessie Burkette, both of Durham; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. JESSIE AVENT TAYLOR Mrs. Jessie Avent Taylor, 93, of Linden Fayetteville, 'Buck' Knight, Former Orange County Sheriff HILLSBOROUGH "Buck" Knight 72, who was sheriff of Orange County for more than 23 years, died Saturday morning at Durham County General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Knight, who lived in Hillsborough, was a lifelong resident of Orange County. He was in law enforcement for 30 years. Knight was appointed sheriff in 1959 to replace O.H.

Clayton, who died in office. Knight was elected for five consecutive terms beginning in 1962. He retired on Nov. 29, 1982, which was declared "Sheriff Buck Knight Day" by the Orange County commissioners. He formerly served as a president of the North Carolina Sheriff's Association.

Knight was a lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and was a recipient of formerly of Durham, died Friday in the Fayetteville Veterans Administration Hospital. Mrs. Taylor was a registered nurse who served at both Duke Hospital and Watts Hospital in Durham. During World War she served as a member of the Army Nurse Corps in France. Her late husband, James H.

Taylor, was principal of Lowes Grove School. Mrs. Taylor was a member of Parkers Grove United Methodist Church in Linden. The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville by the Rev.

Douglas Currin, the Rev. N.B. Hill Jr. and the Rev. Allen Edens.

Times) Citing medical, ethical and emotional difficulties, the Loma Linda University Medical Center has decided to suspend a program in which newborn babies with lethal brain defects were put on life-support systems to preserve their organs for transplant. Under the program, Loma Linda would put anencephalic babies on respirators for one week. If the babies met brain death criteria within that week, their organs would be used for transplant.

If they did not die within the week, the respirator would be removed and the babies would be allowed to die naturally without donating any organs. Only one of the babies met brain death criteria, Schaefer said, but no recipient could be found for his heart, liver or lungs. One medical center, which had a compatible recipient, he said, "turned us down."
