The family has entrusted HallWynne Funeral Service with their care. John Joseph Stefura, Sr. LITTLETON John Joseph Stefura, 82, died Thursday at Guardian Care in Roanoke Rapids. Mr. Stefura was a Carteret, NJ native born to the late Peter Stefura and Anna Gaspar Stefura.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Stefura. John was owner and operator of Lake Gaston Sales and Service. He was a charter member of the Lake Lion's Club and the Lake Gaston Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Stefura was a U.S.

Navy Veteran and a member of the American Legion Horace Palmer Post in Littleton and the V.F.W. in New Jersey. He was also the Faithful Navigator with the Knights of Columbus and twice served as Grand Knight. Born on August 17, 1912 in Lee County NC to the late Samuel Wilson V'omble Sr. and Carrie Barringer Womble.

A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 17 2009 at Jonesboro United Methodist Church in Jonesboro with Rev. Joel Wilbourne and Rev. Vernon Tyson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the Wesley Center at Jonesboro United Methodist Church and at other times at the family home.

Mr. Womble was a veteran of his country and served in the United States Army at FT. Bragg in the S.T. Unit. While serving with the S.T.

Unit, Mr. Womble was responsible for training soldiers who were drafted that were illiterate. He assisted these trainees with writing letters to their families and reading their mail to them that they received from family. He spent a lifetime career with Stevens Milling Company of Broadway. Womble was a life long member of Jonesboro United Methodist Church and member of the Sanford Lions Club where he was the oldest member of the club.

He was the elder statesman and oldest living letterman for the NC State Basketball where he helped lead the 1933-34 Freshman team to the Big Four Champion. The 6'4" forward then played varsity basketball in 1934-35 when the "Red Terrors" went 10-9. This was an accomplishment that Mr. Womble was very proud of. He is survived by three children, Wilson Womble III and wife, Carole of High Point, Susan Lewis and husband, Chuck of Sanford, Steve Womble and wife, Beth of Brevard; one sister, Mae Burns of Seven Lakes; four grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; and special friend and caregiver, Jenny Spainhour.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Stevens Womble, brothers, William "Bill" Womble and John B. Womble, sisters, Louise W. Marks, Amey Womble Watson and Ruth W. He was 80. McGoohan died Tuesday in Los Angeles after a short illness, his son-in-law, film producer Cleve Landsberg, said. McGoohan won two Emmys for work on the Peter Falk detective drama "Columbo." More recently, he appeared in the 1995 Mel Gibson film "Braveheart." But he was most famous as the character known as Number Six in "The Prisoner," a sci-fi-tinged 1960s British series in which a former spy is held captive in a small enclave where a mysterious authority named Number One constantly prevents his escape. Stiles parked along the Massachusetts Turnpike then apparently walked into the path of the train after it left Boston's South Station on Jan. 9. No passengers were hurt, said Joe Pesaturo, spokesman for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. Stiles, of Nashua, N.H., helped re-launch Men's Fitness, where he worked as publisher from 2003 to 2004. He also helped launch ESPN The Magazine and served as publisher at Esquire and as a top executive at Vanity Fair and GQ.
